COVID-19 Immunization Competency Course for Nurses (RNs, RPNs, LPNs)

Purpose:   While the complete BCCDC Immunization Competency Course is recommended for all new vaccine providers, it is recognized that in the context of the global pandemic, the need for an expedited immunization competency education process is essential to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in a timely manner (i.e., for those who will be providing COVID-19 vaccines only). As such, this course has been developed to equip new nurse immunizers with the knowledge necessary to provide safe and effective COVID-19 immunization based on the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) immunization competencies.

*Please note that this course replaces the "Condensed Competency Process for COVID-19 Vaccine Providers" for nurses (RNs, RPNs, and LPNs) and the need for access to the EPIC course. For LPNs, the BCCDC COVID-19 Immunization Competency Course meets the BCCNM’s additional education requirement (condition) for LPNs to autonomously administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

Intended Audience: Nurses (RNs, RPNs, LPNs)

Website: PHSA LearningHub

The BCCDC COVID-19 Immunization Competency Course consists of two components:
  1. The online COVID-19 Immunization Competency Course for Nurses (RNs, RPNs, LPNs)
  2. The COVID-19 Immunization Skills Checklist (requires additional support from Employer - In work environments where completion of the course is specifically required either by the BCCNM or by the employer, a process will be in place for Nurses to complete the supervised COVID-19 Immunization Skills Checklist. Nurses should enquire with their supervisors or Nurse Educators to determine what this process is.)
