Anonymous HIV Testing

BCCDC is leading an anonymous HIV testing pilot project.

Anonymous HIV testing is available at several clinics in British Columbia. See the SmartSex Resource website for locations.

It is a way to test for HIV without collecting identifiable or contact information. All testing, recording and reporting of results are made using a numbered testing code known only to the client and the code must be provided to receive the result.

The objectives of the anonymous HIV testing pilot project are to:

  • increase uptake of HIV testing in clients who may not test or delay testing due to confidentiality concerns (i.e. men who have sex with men, youth, healthcare workers)

  • optimize connection to follow-up, care and support for those who test HIV positive
