The ethical decision-making framework, and underlying principles and values, provides an interim process to support health care organizations and teams to make challenging decisions in a COVID-19 outbreak.
The ethical analysis focuses on the duty of health care workers in circumstances where there is a risk of harm to their own person.
This document provides an ethical approach to intervening for a patient or resident who cannot or will not adhere to physical distancing and infection control measures and thus poses a risk of harm to others. The document applies to all Ministry of Health funded facilities including acute, long-term care, and provincial mental health facilities and may offer relevant guidance to other settings as well.
