Immunization Programs and Vaccine Preventable Diseases

The Immunization Programs and Vaccine Preventable Diseases team is responsible for immunization program implementation support, clinical guidelines development, professional and public education, program evaluation, surveillance and monitoring of vaccine coverage, vaccine safety and vaccine effectiveness, as well as vaccine procurement, inventory management and provincial distribution of the vaccine supply. The team also provides pharmaceutical care for TB and STI clinical services.

Our areas of work

Epidemiology & Surveillance

The team conducts integrated epidemiology and surveillance for vaccine preventable and related diseases (such as invasive group A streptococcal disease), and produces and disseminates reports about trends in these diseases. Immunization & Vaccines

The team supports the implementation of provincial immunization programs, assesses immunization coverage, conducts surveillance of adverse events, promotes immunization for all programs, and provides technical and operational support for immunization program policy development and program planning, including provincial immunization initiatives in partnership with the Regional Health Authorities. | Immunization & Vaccines | Immunization Coverage Reports | Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) | COVID-19 Vaccine | Immunization Promotion

The team is  responsible for developing and updating the BC Immunization Manual (Chapter 2, Communicable Disease Control Manual) and best-practice guidelines for immunization services in BC | BC Immunization Manual | Immunization Clinical Resources

BCCDC Pharmacy

The Pharmacy team provides pharmaceutical care as well as inventory management and medication distribution to support select BCCDC programs and services. | BCCDC Pharmacy

Vaccine Distribution Centre

The team is responsible for procuring, inventory management, and distribution of publicly funded vaccines in BC. | Vaccine Management | BCCDC Pharmacy

Evaluation, Enhanced Surveillance and Research

The team is responsible for enhanced surveillance of respiratory viruses such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19 in order to monitor patterns and determinants of disease burden and evaluate vaccine effectiveness. | Sentinel Practitioner Surveillance Network
