STI Certification

This page is dedicated to supporting Registered Nurses certified by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in performing specific activities within their independent scope of practice. The decision support tools (DSTs) provided on this page set the parameters for the Reproductive Health (Sexually Transmitted Infections) certification.

At BCCDC, we are committed to ensuring these tools are regularly reviewed and updated to remain consistent with best practices and the latest evidence. These tools are designed to guide RN(C)s but do not replace the responsibility to exercise clinical judgement and provide evidence-based, ethical care. When appropriate, consult or refer to a physician or nurse practitioner if the plan of action differs from the RN(C) DST.

For an overview of the difference between RN scope of practice and RN(C) scope of practice please review this document on Certification: What is the difference?
