Mission

Surveillance along the food chain for safer food and healthy people in BC

The goals and objectives of the program are to:

To inform programs and policies to decrease the burden of human disease in BC commonly associated with foodborne pathogens by:

  1. Identify sources and patterns of endemic and emerging disease caused by pathogens along the food chain in BC
    • Monitor the occurrence of pathogens along the food chain
    • Integrate findings from food and animal sources and human sectors
  2. Support efficient and coordinated multi-sectoral programs and policies to address public health risks along the food chain in BC
    • Strengthen inter and intra-agency partnerships required to address public health risks along the food chain
    • Share integrated findings from animal, environment, food and human sources to inform programs and policies
