Priorities

Our priorities are to:

  • Engage with stakeholders to improve knowledge translation with a focus on reducing inequities
  • Develop integrated surveillance systems to enhance understanding of provincial disease burden and interventions using a syndemics approach
  • Use surveillance data to advance the understanding of prevention, acquisition and transmission of STIBBIs and TB using an intersectional lens

Our work

We are responsible for provincial surveillance of sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STIBBIs) and tuberculosis (TB) to inform prevention, control, and elimination efforts. We report this in the Annual Summary of Reportable Diseases. We also publish detailed reports:  HIV/AIDS, STI, TB and Hepatitis C.

We focus on developing and enhancing surveillance systems to advance the understanding of the prevention, acquisition and transmission of STIBBIs and TB using intersectional and syndemics lenses.

We work closely with and provide analytical support to the BCCDC Public Health Laboratory and the provincial TB clinic and STI clinic to pilot and evaluate novel clinical practices to improve client care and population health.

We lead the development of guidelines to prevent and control STIBBIs and TB in partnership with the Regional Health Authorities, the First Nations Health Authority and other programs in Clinical Prevention Services at BCCDC.

We collaborate with researchers to advance knowledge related to STIBBIs and TB. For more about the research focus of BCCDC, and a list of our researchers and projects, see Our Research.
