Dr. Drona Rasali is a BCCDC Investigator Emeritus and was the former director of Population Health Surveillance & Epidemiology at BCCDC. He is also an adjunct professor at the UBC School of Population & Public Health.
Dr. Rasali's research and surveillance interests include chronic disease comorbidities and multimorbidities, health equity indicators, socio-economic deprivation index, food security indicators and systems approach to health promotion. His research during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic includes analyses of syndemic occurrence and socio-economic disparities of two pandemics (COVID-19 and diabetes).
Dr. Rosali networks and collaborates provincially, nationally and internationally in the diverse topics of non-communicable disease epidemiology, population and public health surveillance, global burden of disease, emotional well-being and One Health. He has served as the chair of the Canadian Alliance for Regional Risk Factor Surveillance (CARRFS), which is a voluntary network of public health professionals interested in disease risk factor surveillance and research in Canada (2019-2021).
Dr. Drona Rasali was Provincial Chronic Disease Epidemiologist at the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health (2005-2012) and held the position of adjunct professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina (2009-2019). He received the designation of Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology (FACE) in 2014. He also served as a doctor of veterinary medicine and senior scientist in the Government of Nepal from 1980 to 1999.
Dr. Rosali earned his PhD from the University of Manitoba, studying quantitative genetics, genetic diseases, epidemiology and bioinformatics. He received his veterinary medicine degree in India, master's degree in genetics and related health sciences from the Philippines and post-graduate trainings in Australia and UK.
Dr. Rasali has authored or co-authored over 100 articles in the peer-reviewed and grey literature in many fields.
