BCCDC Foundation for Population and Public Health
The BCCDC Foundation for Population & Public Health raises funds to support innovative and critical research at the BC Centre for Disease Control, the provincial centre of excellence for the prevention, detection and control of infectious disease and environmental health hazards. Our mission is to protect health, prevent harm, and prepare for threats by inspiring vision and philanthropy. Our vision is to protect people from infectious diseases and environmental health hazards through innovative research and collaborative public health solutions.
The BCCDC Foundation will prioritize the creation of long term funded scholarships to recruit Canadian and international scientists to the centre. We support fellowships, training opportunities and educational activities that bring people together from around the world to find solutions to some of our greatest health challenges.
With increasing globalization, we need to protect the health of British Columbians by joining the fight against international and emerging health threats and diseases. BCCDC continuously shares its knowledge and expertise in public health with other countries. We help BCCDC fight global health threats by providing funds to the Centre to support the development of health promotion projects and programs in other countries.
When new diseases like SARS and Human Swine Influenza emerge or bioterrorism and environmental disasters strike, preparedness and rapid response are essential to prevent or limit the spread of disease. Strengthening our response capacity depends on continual advancements in knowledge and infrastructure that enable us to react swiftly and at the earliest stages of an emerging outbreak or epidemic.
The BCCDC Foundation helps bridge the gap in important areas not funded by the government. Such needs include funding for tools and technologies required to pioneer leading-edge research at BC Centre for Disease Control. We support provincial and national public health and prevention programs across the spectrum of infectious disease and environmental health.
