The BCCDC has been accreditated by this National Organization since 2004. The most recent on-site accreditation visit occurred June 26-29, 2011 and the BCCDC was granted a three-year accreditation, without conditions. BCCDC successfully met all Required Organization Practices (ROPs) which are based on patient safety best practices. It also very successfully met 97.7% of all the standards that it was assessed on.
|Accreditation Canada is an independent organization that provides healthcare organizations with an external peer review process. This assessment is focused on assessing organizations’ adherence to nationally recognized quality and safety standards. By participating in accreditation, BCCDC is able to showcase its best practices and ensure commitment to continuous quality improvement, patient safety, improved efficiency and accountability.
Visiting surveyors identified areas for improvement that will help guide BCCDC future activities across the centre, such as an organizational IT/IM strategy, and increased reporting/transparency on quality outcomes for our clients. Also identified were areas of strength which included a strong commitment to quality and safety across the organization and recognition of a continuum of care philosophy.
BCCDC was also recognized as having 2 Leading Practices: Reduced dosing schedules for HPV Vaccine for Grade 6 Girls and the Tool for Early Detection of Temperature Effects on the Health of BC Residents. Leading practices are examples of exemplary performance that set the bar for others across the country. Leading practices are compiled and published in an annual report produced by the Accreditation Canada.
The next on-site review will occur in the year 2015.
