  • H1N1 Vaccine Eligibility Groups to Expand  
    VICTORIA – More British Columbians will be eligible to receive the H1N1 vaccine beginning Monday, Nov. 16 – including first responders, healthy children, seniors with chronic health conditions and additional health care workers.
  • Pandemic H1N1 Influenza Vaccine Update  
    Despite unexpected delays in the manufacture of pandemic H1N1 influenza vaccine in Canada, all British Columbians who need or want the vaccine will be able to receive it before the end of the year as has been said previously, Minister of Healthy Living and Sport Ida Chong and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall reiterated today.
  • Provincial Tamiflu supply for treatment of illness  
    As British Columbia continues to experience increased pandemic H1N1 influenza activity, health officials are reiterating important messages regarding the use of antivirals to treat infection from this novel virus.
  • H1N1 vaccine approved, and timing confirmed  
    Following today’s approval by Health Canada regulators, the pandemic H1N1 influenza vaccine will be made available to British Columbians beginning the week of Oct. 26, announced Minister of Healthy Living and Sport Ida Chong and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall.
  • First human case of West Nile virus in BC confirmed  
    British Columbia has confirmed its first indigenous human case of West Nile virus infection, and laboratory tests are underway to determine if another person has been infected as well.
  • BC has first H1N1 confirmed death  
    A young child from the Fraser Health region is the first known person in British Columbia to die from the pandemic H1N1 influenza virus, while a young woman in the same health region has also died in connection with the H1N1 influenza outbreak.
  • Salmonella Cases on the Rise in British Columbia  
    Over the past few months, British Columbia has seen a steady increase in cases of a particular strain of Salmonella, with the vast majority of these being reported in the lower mainland.
  • Potential Outbreak of Salmonella Carrau  
    The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is working with provincial and local health authorities, Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate a potential North American gastro-intestinal outbreak of Salmonella Carrau.
  • Agranulocytosis associated with levamisole in cocaine users update  
    Public health officials are warning physicians, social service agencies and cocaine usersof reports they have received of people becoming seriously ill from using contaminated cocaine,beyond the already known detrimental effects of cocaine. The BC investigation is coordinated by the BCCDC which continues to receive reports of agranulocytosis related to levamisole tainted cocaine.
  • Salmonella related peanut product recall  
    In cooperation with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has issued a notice to advise the public of an important recall of products that could cause serious illness in vulnerable population groups.
