Preparing for Emergencies
When preparing for an emergency, plan for 72 hours without power, utilities or assistance. A first aid kit, non-perishable food items, and water are essential to an emergency preparedness kit, but remember to stock your kit with toiletries, medication, pet food and other items you would normally get at a grocery store. Ensure that you have comfort items to occupy children.
Emergency preparedness kits may be purchased for a reasonable cost at many department stores or specialty shops. To find out what to put in your emergency kit or where to buy one, please visit the government of Canada’s Get Prepared website. British Columbia Provincial Emergency (PEP) program offers many personal preparedness resources. Also check with your municipal emergency management office for services specific to your area.
