Shingles (Zoster) Vaccine
A shingles (zoster) vaccine was approved for use in Canada in 2008. The vaccine may be marketed starting late 2009.
The shingles vaccine is not currently part of British Columbia’s immunization schedule.
The shingles vaccine is not the same as the chickenpox vaccine, although they are related. Children and susceptible adults in BC are eligible to receive chickenpox vaccine. The chickenpox vaccine is routinely given to children after the first birthday.
