German Measles (Rubella) Vaccine

The German measles (rubella) vaccine is combined with the measles and mumps vaccine, so a person can receive protection from three diseases with one shot.

Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is provided for free as part of routine immunizations in British Columbia.
The MMR vaccine is given to children as a series of two doses at ages:
  • 12 months
  • 18 months

The vaccine is given at the same time as other childhood immunizations.

The MMR vaccine is also provided for free to:

  • Women of child-bearing age who are not immune to rubella
  • Older chidlren and adults born after 1956 who have not been immunized with MMR
