Chickenpox (Varicella) Vaccine


 

The chickenpox vaccine is provided for free as part of routine immunizations in British Columbia.

  • Children 12 months to 12 years receive a single shot.
  • People aged 13 years and over get 2 shots given 4 weeks apart.
  • The vaccine is 100% effective against severe forms of chickenpox, and up to 90% effective against mild forms of the illness.
