How are Children Immunized in BC?
- Children receive their school entry immunizations either from public health nurses at their local health unit, or at school, or from their family physician.
- Most of the children in higher grades are immunized by public health nurses in special immunization clinics at their schools.
How is Coverage Measured?
The Interior Health Authority (for Kindergarten students) and the Vancouver and Richmond Health Service Delivery Areas use information from immunization registries to measure immunization coverage among school-age children. All other measures of immunization coverage among school-age children are done by calculating the percentage of students enrolled in the grade who are immunized at the school clinic (or who provided information about receiving the immunizations elsewhere).
