BC's food and beverage processing sector generated $6.15 billion is sales in 2004, of which $1.9 billion was exported. The processing sector, dominated by a large number of small and medium-sized firms, employs 31,000 people. The FSI was part of the Agricultural Policy Framework (APF), a federal-provinicial-territorial strategy for long-term sustainability and profitability in the agriculture and agri-food sector.
We’re a Winner!
| On March 27,2009 the Food Safety Initiative (FSI) Program was announced provincial winner of the 2008/09 Premier’s Innovation and Excellence Award. With the public’s rising concerns about food safety, FSI was able to shift attitudes and practices of food processing plants to recognize the value of adopting internationally recognized food safety systems. FSI required food processors to take ownership of food safety by developing and implementing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) programs. |
