Mumps

Mumps is an infection caused by the mumps virus. Infections occur most often in childhood but, can happen in adults.
Since the introduction of the mumps vaccine, rates of mumps disease have dropped greatly. |
There were 23 cases of mumps in BC in 2007. Most were in people aged 20-29 years, and 61% were female.
- One case had links to the large outbreak of mumps in the Maritimes
- Four cases had travelled internationally
- The other cases were in one of four clusters, but the spread of the virus was limited
