Meningococcal Infection

Neisseria meningitidis Meningococcal disease is a severe infection cased by a bacterium called Neisseria meningitidis.

Since the introduction of routine meningococcal immunization, the rates of meningitis in children have steadily declined.

In 2010, there were only 3 cases in persons 18 years of age and younger and a record low 10 cases overall in BC.
