Human immunodeficiency virus
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system.  It is spread through contact with infected blood, semen or vaginal fluids.  There is no cure for HIV, but antiretroviral medication can reduce the amount of virus in the body and help you to stay healthy.  Without treatment, HIV infection can progress to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
