Confirmed Case
laboratory confirmation of infection with/without symptoms:
- isolation of shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli from an appropriate clinical specimen (e.g. stool, blood)
OR
- detection of shiga-toxin antigen or nucleic acid or detection of shiga-toxin by verotoxin assay
