Organic by Nature frozen Organic Sweet Peas recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes

BC Centre for Disease Control is aware of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recall of Organic by Nature brand frozen Organic Sweet Peas carried at Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. due to Listeria monocytogenes. This product was distributed in BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

To date, there have been no reported cases of illness in BC associated with this product.  If you have consumed this product and have symptoms of listeriosis, consult a health-care professional.  

Listeriosis is most often caused by eating foods contaminated with the bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes. Symptoms can include:

fever
muscle aches
vomiting
headache

Listeriosis can also cause serious illness such as meningitis or blood infection, but these symptoms are relatively uncommon.  Serious illness is more common in:

pregnant women and newborns
those with weakened immune systems
older adults or seniors



May 4, 2016 Update: This recall has been updated to include two additional products sold in BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination: Organic by Nature brand frozen Organic Butternut Squash and Organic Vegetable Medley. There have been no reported illnesses in Canada due to consumption of these products.
